TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
This practice is committed to the training and development of its team and gained its Investor in People award in July 2004. We are also attached to the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery for training doctors who are specialising in general practice. These fully qualified (young and enthusiastic!) doctors are attached to us for 12 months and during this time you may find that your doctor has the GP Registrar sitting in with them; indeed, you may be offered an appointment with the 'new' doctor. We hope that you can give your support to this important aspect of our work.
MEDICAL STUDENTS
We are proud that we have long been
approved as a practice suitable for the training of medical students, usually
from the newly formed Imperial College Medical School. A notice in the waiting
room will let you know whether your doctor has a student sitting in during consultations.
Please do not feel embarrassed if you do not wish to have the student present;
just tell the doctor and he/she will understand.

ROLES OF THE PRACTICE TEAM
Mrs Christine Earwaker is responsible for non-clinical aspects of the running of the practice. She may be able to help you with any administrative or non-medical queries and is
available to discuss any suggestions or complaints.
Deputy Manager Mrs Stella Price oversees the running of the practice in conjunction with Mrs Earwaker.
Receptionists
There are two senior receptionists leading the team of ladies who are here to help you. They have a difficult job to do, with phone calls and enquiries from all directions.
When asking for medical attention, the receptionist may ask for a few details; we have trained our staff to adopt this procedure so that we can help you in the most appropriate way. There are at present 12 reception
staff who cover all aspects of the running of the practice reception area.
Other Staff
In addition to the telephonist, we employ an audio typist and a prescription collator. The latter involves processing repeat prescriptions and helping you with prescription
enquiries. (There may be occasions when the collator has to contact you about some aspect of your prescription.) The collator is not able to issue prescriptions without a doctor's authorisation. The collator is not
able to issue prescriptions without a doctor's authorisation.
Nurse Practitioner
The nurse practitioner will see and treat most medical conditions and complements our clinical team.
Treatment Room Sisters
We have a team of fully trained nursing sisters employed directly by the practice to staff our busy treatment room. The nurses deal with, for example, holiday, baby and
regular immunisations, new patient checks, dressings, removal of stitches, ear syringing, smears and ECGs requested by your doctor.
If you are not certain whether the service you require can be performed by our nurses, please check with reception staff.
The service operates an appointment system and appointments can be booked through the reception desk or by phoning. Please be prepared to give the staff details
of the reason for your attendance as the time taken for different tasks varies. Without such information we cannot operate an efficient system, one which keeps waiting times to a minimum.
On some afternoons the treatment room is not available as specific clinics are being held. It is wise to consult reception for details of the day's activities.
The treatment room sisters cannot be expected to diagnose or initiate treatment. However, they are ready and willing to help in a medical crisis. We have nurse-led clinics for
diabetes, heart disease, travel vaccination, smoking cessation and lung disease. Our nurses are also involved in running cervical smear clinics, child vaccination and checking blood pressures.
We are in the process of developing nurse-led clinics to deal with chronic diseases such as: heart disease; diabetes; asthma; hypertension (high blood pressure) etc.
